Hi. My name is Eric. This is my journey after being paralyzed in an off-road motorcycle accident on January 22, 2011. I suffered a fractured T12 resulting in a ASIA A Complete spinal cord injury. I have no sensation or motor function from my waist down and am in a wheelchair. My wife, two young daughters, family and friends have been supporting me in this journey.

Bio-Fit and Injection - June 10, 2011

This morning Eric went to Bio-Fit for another physical therapy session.  After the standard stretches, Alexis focused Eric on an ab and oblique workout.  Eric was pretty strong doing the basic crunches with a medicine ball.  But then Alexis threw in two very challenging exercises.  From a sitting position Eric walked his hand sideways and then he was supposed to lift his hand and pull himself back with his obliques.  Then he was supposed to lean forward to touch a ball then pull himself back only with his abs.  For someone who cannot feel their bottom and has no balance, these were extremely difficult exercises which Eric struggled with.

We returned back to the hotel and had a sandwich for lunch.  At 3pm we were picked up to go to the Stem Cell Institute for the second lumbar injection into Eric's spine.  This went smoothly with Eric again feeling two pricks and then we were back in the van headed back to the hotel.
Usually every night we go out to a local restaurant for dinner.  On Wednesday Tracy had walked to the local grocery store and bought cereal, milk, fruit, and enough for two dinners.  Since Eric was supposed to relax after his injection, Tracy decided to cook dinner.  She made chicken legs, beans, corn and rice.  It was delicious (and required no difficult navigating over curbs and broken up sidewalks).

Tomorrow we are renting a car with Scott (another patient) and his friend Joe who are staying at our hotel.  Joe seems confident he can manage driving with the local crazy drivers and I am supposed to navigate with a very limited map to try to sight see.  It should be quite an adventure.

  2. Hi Guy-

Sounds like you are having too good of a time there. Glad you have some time to get out and enjoy Panama.

We are in Foster City right (spending the night). Tomorrow is on with a fun planned day.

Hopefully you guys made it back after Tracy's site seeing navigation role and didn't end up in Colombia! Actually if she steered you guys north, Costa Rica I heard has some fabulous beaches!

    Take care!
